When I left Newfoundland in 1992 to study mathematics at Waterloo, the federal government had just issued a moratorium on the Atlantic cod fishery. It wasn't until I returned in 1995 to study English at Memorial University that I realized just how profoundly the moratorium had affected my island home. The economy was in shambles. Many of my relatives and friends were forced to move elsewhere to find work. Hopelessness was the catch of the day. This issue of Ataraxia Theatre was written against that background.
About virgins... How many virgins does it take to screw in a light bulb? Who knows? They haven't tried it yet. With no further ado, may I present the moratorium issue... |
