Today's page doesn't have a snappy title, I'm afraid.

In the GearHead universe about five percent of Earth's population has some form of visible mutation. Catlike features, such as those displayed by Meivus, are fairly common. It's likely that this genetic trait was created for cosmetic reasons during the Age of Superpowers, though historians disagree on whether the modification was used by the ruling Idealist class or applied to one of the specially bred service classes.

Other forms of mutation, such as draconic ichtheosis, can be debilitating or even life threatening. Physical mutation is much rarer outside of Earth. This is becuase most space colonies have practiced some form of controlled breeding, the residents of space aren't exposed to the same contaminants as people on Earth, and maybe also because people with visible mutations would have been denied passage on refugee ships in the early days of the exodus.
