Today I start The Nature of Tragedy- a series of single page strips on, if you haven't guessed, the nature of tragedy. Today's sample is a stick figure comic. This is fortuitous, since I'm about to plug two other stick figure comics. Many of you know I have a soft spot for stick figures. Back when I first started drawing comics, I received some words of encouragement from the great Matt Feazell. This week I'd like to direct you to two fun stick figure comics. First up is xkcd, which I was turned on to by my friend Corey. It's a very funny strip infused with math. One reason I like this comic: I thought I was the only person in the world who did this. xkcd is clever, funny, and unpronouncable. Three hallmarks of quality. The second strip I'd like to plug is Phil Likes Tacos, which was featured alongside Ataraxia Theatre and Head Doctor in the ComicGenesis Free Comic Book Day book. It's a stick figure comic about a guy who works at a fast food restaurant and his roommate the video game addict... but you should check it out anyways. It's funny, the art is simple but nicely polished, and you can learn the difference between chicken and beef. |
