In addition to stick figures, I also like a comic genre
which I personally call "Weird Menace". I took that term from the shadowy Mr. Evans, a
character from Grant Morrison's run on Doom Patrol.
I think this term nicely sums up
the odd mix of humor, peril, and surrealism that many modern adventure title have-
NextWave, Metropol, and SeaGuy spring immediately to mind.
I wrote all this while trying to think of how to introduce
Reckless Youth by Claude TC.
Let's see... there's a guy named Claude, who is told that he's the next messiah
by an alcoholic dwarf who looks exactly like him. His best friends are a mad
scientist, a hitman, and a guy who can go super-saiyan if he concentrates long
enough.
What makes this comic good isn't the plot, it's the sense of anarchy and fun
found throughout. Claude (the author, not the character) has a very good
sense of pacing. My favorite chapter was
"Night of the Living Goth".
You should go check it out. If you don't, it must be because you don't like fun...
and I'll be getting to you lot next week.
